| | Model | Toyota Celica Gts | | | What things have gone wrong with the car? | Not a drag racer, but who cares. If you're a larger than average person don't even try to get into the driver's seat. | | | General comments? | I'd recommend this car if you're 5'11" tall or less (not much headroom) and are looking for a fast, fun-to-drive, safe small car with excellent brakes and superb handling, plus a surprising amount of room in the back. Why do I say safe? Because the 4-wheel disc brakes stop the car in a shorter distance than any car in its price range - braking power as good as or better than most Porsches,Mercedes and Volvos. Cornering ability and steering response also are superb, so you can avoid accidents and make emergency handling manuevers without losing control (or rolling over - forget that "safe" SUV). This car is almost impossible to spin out or flip. The lack of low-end torque is also a safety factor. In case you've never driven, for example, a Turbo Colt, take it from me - powerful, lightweight, front-wheel drive cars can be very hard to control when you accelerate really hard from a standstill or at low speed. This car produces very little torque steer even if you pop the clutch. Once you're going about 30 miles an hour, then its power kicks in. | | | Previous car | If you want to run the stop-light drag races, get a Mustang GT and put up with the Mustang's lousy brakes, shabby construction, rough ride and overall lack of finesse. If you're ok with econo-box styling and an ugly interior get the Golf VR6 (have fun wax |
