| | Model | Toyota Celica | | | What things have gone wrong with the car? | Cockpit is smallish, I'm only 5'9" but, it's not cramped at my size, jsut snug, think Miata'ish. Forget about anyone sitting in back unless they have no legs. Chessey plastic, I'm with everyone that has complained about the cheap plastic, it's just that, cheap. Shame Toyota. The blind spot to the sides, I don't notice the back blind spot as much. | | | General comments? | I've owned this car for just under 4 months and I must say, it is a capable car, not the fastest, but willing IF you know how to drive it. First of all, those that have said it is weak and underpowered, please, buy the 6-speed and learn to drive it before you judge. I'd been in the car all of about 20 minutes and I could consistantly leave 5-8 foot lines of rubber. Take the tach up to about 5 grand and dump the clutch, you'll rocket off. If you prefer a little less wheel spin, use some clutch "english" at about 4 thousand and ease it out as you feel the tires bit, pound the gas and be ready to slam into second, before you know it you've hit 8 grand, push the clutch nearly to the floor, mash the gash, let out on again, and find third, repeat the process for fourth gear and I promise you, you'll see nearly 100mph in the quarter. If you know how to drive, it's possible. The engine pulls nicely above fourthousand in town, if you don't feel the need to do breakneck speeds. The seats fit nicely, holding you in place when you feel like testing the super glue adhesion of the BF Goodrich radials, find some corners and be amazed. I've driven one Porsche 911 in my life and it was the only other car that handled like the Celica GT-S. Again, the seats are fabulous. With the orange gauges a bit odd to read, 100-110mph being at the top of the speedo. Other than that, the cd player controls are easy to get to, the climate controls are well placed for no look temp settings. Handy at 120mph. The back seat is a joke, but hey, it saves on insurance. The blind spots are a little troublesome, although, the rear wing doesn't bother me as much being as I bought the GT-S with the Action package, with the larger rear wing. I see okay, but only when the mirrors are well adjusted. Before you get used to the over the shoulder blind spots, you'll be nervous about fast lane changes. The model I own isn't that new, but the TRD front grille and rocker panels add a little something to the car. It was sporty enough, but this... more machismo. Astheticly pleasing, this car delivers the goods. | | | Previous car | '98 RamAir Formula Firebird, '97 Z28, tons of 'Stangs, '99 Corvette hartop, '94 Porsche 911 Turbo, 300zx (very nice), and a '91 2.5L Twin Turbo Supra. |
